Out of Reach

To me it seems like humans often want what they can't have.  I was discussing this recently with a friend concerning the opposite gender, as in: a guy likes a girl, but she doesn't like him back.  Instead, she likes someone she can't really have.  I'm not saying this always happens, I was just using it as an example.  There seems to be something in our nature that wants us to reach for something that is, well, rather out of reach.

This can be a good thing; after all, if we only took what was given to us, we wouldn't invent, explore, or discover new horizons.  But, if we keep reaching for what we can't have, we can waste our lives trying to find something that's not even worthwhile...like fame, riches, popularity. etc.

I think we're all pretty familiar with Matthew 7:7...
Ask, and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. (NKJV)

You're also probably heard that this verse doesn't apply to everything.  For example, if you ask God for a new car in your driveway tomorrow, it most likely will not happen.  When Amy Carmichael (Christian missionary to India) asked God to turn her brown eyes blue, as a child, God didn't answer that prayer with a "yes".  But later,  she discovered how important it was in her mission work that she had brown eyes.  God always has a reason for saying "no" or "wait" (or "yes")!  Matthew 7:7 applies to requests we send to God that are in God's will.

How do we know what God's will is?  For school I recently read Experiencing God (Youth Edition) by Henry T. Blackaby and Claude V. King.  This is a great book that clearly shows how we can experience God and deepen our relationship with Him.  The book is written in an understandable and interesting way and accompanied by Bible verses to support its points.

Going back to that "stuff we can't have", sometimes we have to be content.  Right now I'm struggling a little with contentment about a certain subject.  So if you think of me, maybe you could send a prayer up...  but it's not a big deal, I know it will pass.

Okay, so this post is kind of "all over the place".  When I start typing up a post I'm not always 100% sure what will be the result of my fingers + keyboard keys + computer screen + God.  But here it is.
