Trying New Things

Pt. I ~ Stuff You Like to Do

Do you ever go through different...phases of your life where one week you like drawing and the next week you like biking?  Yup.  I used to go through those all the time.  And I still do, except in general they last longer.

For example, I haven't knitted as much lately as I used to.  Even though I still love knitting, I don't have a ton of spare time, so when I do, I've recently worked on my book.  Now just an FYI here, I will hopefully never stop writing books, Lordwilling.  I love to write and hope that it's something that will never go away.  However I do get writer's blocked and run out of ideas, so...

What are some of the "phases" you go through?  The ones I cycle through are: excessive writing (writing so much on my book I don't have time for any other hobby :)), knitting, origami, room cleaning (yes I'm serious!  Although I'm not sure if I'd call that a hobby or not.), room redecorating (kinda goes hand-in-hand with the room cleaning), blogging (I admit it!  I'm not always in the mood to blog.  Although recently I have been...), eating chocolate (I'm generally doing this one no matter what :D), reading, and lastly, something not mentioned above.

Pt. II ~ Stuff You Haven't Done Yet

Maybe you're one of those people who like to leap (Happy late leap day, btw!) out of their comfort zone and try new things, and you cycle from one phase to the next practically every day.  Or, maybe you're one of those people who find something they like, and they stick with it, and they enjoy doing that.

I think I'm a mix between the two extremes (is it polite to call my reader an extreme?  Probably not.  Sorry.  :D  But I can't think of a different word right now and I want to go eat breakfast.  So...).  I have the set things I cycle through and occasionally a new one gets thrown in but usually I stick with those eight.  Except for recently.

Recently, I've "gotten into" trying new things.  "Stepping out of my comfort zone", is the way some people might describe this for me, since I like to stick with what I already have and don't really want to learn how to skydive or fly an airplane.  But for a while now I've wanted to play an acoustic instrument like a guitar.  I don't have a guitar though and I didn't really want to buy one.  Then I found out about a ukulele...  I think it was when I was listening to You and I by Ingrid Michaelson... it was an audition song for a singing part I was auditioning for.  Anyway.  I liked the ukulele in it.  (Fyi it's not the best romance song even though the chorus is extremely cute.  If you want to listen to it, consider skipping the beginning... :P)  So I researched ukuleles and asked one of my nice friends who has one, for some advice.  So that's my latest thing.

But, besides listening to Josh Groban non-stop and researching ukuleles, reorganizing all my junk, and occasionally checking my FaceBook, I've also been trying some new things.  So I'll probably be posting about that soon.  If you have the chance, I encourage you to check out something new this month!  It doesn't have to be something expensive, like scubadiving or going to Florida.  Maybe you always wanted to go shopping at CVS Pharmacy, but you've never had a chance to go in there.  Or maybe you always wanted to learn how to knit.  There are probably some great internet tutorials on that subject but if you live near me I can teach you too!  Or maybe you've never read The Hungry Caterpillar and you've always wondered what that book is about.  Go to the library.  (That's actually a true story for me, I've never read / had it read to me.)  It kinda reminds me of Tangled...what's your dream?  Or, in this case, what's something doable that you're curious about?  Research it and check it out!

Or, just sit on the sofa and watch Narnia.  That's cool too.  :)

  2. So far I've gone through 3 phases that were mostly job related. Granted one of them was a way awesome hobby, but still. And technically im in my third stage, so I don't think that one counts. :)
